There’s nothing political about putting kids first. School board should be discussing our students. The Cabarrus County School board doesn’t address problems--it plays politics. If there was ever an issue with books, parents and citizens have always been welcomed to address it with the teacher or principal at a school. That was the policy before May and has been for the last six months. But that policy doesn’t get you on a podcast. In August, a new policy was put in place allowing people to question a book with a form. There was no parent who felt so strongly enough about the content of any book that they were willing to engage with their child’s school and get it pulled from the shelf. Even the school board member who read it aloud didn't feel strongly enough to fill out the form. Filling out a form doesn’t get you on a podcast.
Hundreds of parents have signed letter after letter to the school board. They aren't begging for a book. They are begging for transparency. If there is a policy, make it clear, post what’s being reviewed and have an appeal process. Transparency, respect, kids—those should be the board's priorities.
Monday- Pam Escobar advocated on behalf of students, parents, teachers and bus drivers.
Pam has been consistent. She is the only candidate, who has spoken at each school board meeting--sharing concerns about schools and about our kids. As she says, "I'm a MamaBear for yours and mine."
